Sometimes the hardest thing to accomplish when tackling a new project is to start. You have the perfect schedule laid out, the most balanced and effective routine that works great for your life style, but you just can’t seem to get going. Something constantly gets in the way, events in your life providing you hundreds of different excuses to keep you from starting on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
In order to overcome your laziness, there are some useful tips and tricks to remember to convince yourself to quote Nike ads and JUST DO IT.
Make Exercise Fun
Once of the biggest obstacles to overcoming your laziness is to eliminate the drudgery from exercise. Notice that when it comes to doing something fun, like hanging out with friends, going to a game or a concert, laziness is never a problem. Laziness only affects the things you don’t want to do, and you don’t typically want to do something unless it has some element of fun involved.
To make exercise fun, intersperse it among fun activities. Do you enjoy hiking or rocking climbing? Perhaps cycling or rollerblading? Maybe you’re more into martial arts? Straight exercise can be boring, but exercise that associated with a certain sport or activity can increase your interest in working out a hundredfold.
Make Sessions Shorter
The length of time some workouts can take can be intimidating. Once you start, it’s likely the time will fly by. However, it’s tough to remember that before starting. Therefore, eliminate this time concern and cut down the length of your workouts. You shouldn’t need to work out for an hour each day. Cut your sessions down to 20 or 30 minutes a day. As you get more into it, and add more to your daily regimen, you’ll find yourself spending more time on it, but keep in mind that the extra time is optional. By only requiring the minimum from yourself, it’s easier to convince yourself to keep going.
Never Miss a Session
Make exercise a compulsion, and make it your goal to never miss a daily session. Become obsessed with getting it done every day, and it’s more likely that you will. It’s easy to rationalize and tell yourself that missing one session isn’t a big deal, and technically, it’s not. However this attitude makes it hard to be consistent, and overcoming it is an important step to achieving the fitness results you want.
Don’t Wait for Things to Calm Down
If you’re waiting for your life to get simpler and calm down, it never will. Life is a constantly rushing tide of things for you to deal with, and if it’s not in your case, then you have no excuse anyway. Make exercise one of those many things you have to handle in your busy life, and you’ll find you have more than enough time amidst the daily grind for fitness.
Don’t Get Frustrated
It’s easy, especially when first starting out, to get frustrated with your apparently lack of results. This is especially true for strength training and weight loss. Frustration can cause laziness, which will guarantee that your results will be lacking. Even if you aren’t progressing at your desired rate, you will doom yourself to negative results if you don’t exercise at all.
Applying these tips can help you get over some of the initial laziness and set of concerns standing between you and starting daily workouts.
